The Waves

Author: Linnea

Long winter over, spring is here, but I have not been very “here.”  I’ve been a bit all over the place, mostly right with my family, but sometimes my mind has been far away in other places. I have been the cloudy one for a bit. There are undercurrents, we are working on projects and dreams and the likes. I hope to share more of this as it unfolds in the months to come. Today what I needed was just this one thing: to lay near the water, warmed by the sun, listening to the waves.  Today I just needed to make  peace with the waves.  Because sometimes life is the waves: it does exactly what it knows to do, what it is meant to do.  It cannot be stopped, it should not be stopped.  I do always understand it so I just let it be; I just let me be.

At the Beach

Author: Linnea

First spring trip to Lake Michigan– we meant to go to a closer park but the girls were asleep and the sandy dunes were calling.

You may think it a bit chilly but Riana thought differently. By that time there were (achm) no more clothes on her body but who knows how illegal it is to post such adorable pictures. So we shall stick to sisters, walking to the water’s edge hand in hand.

A season just beginning, ten toes at a time.

We are out of boots and wouldn’t you know, there are no tennis shoes that fit. But within a month I know Riana (who has been asking to be called Bill for a few weeks now) will be wearing only sandals. So she picked these from a second hand shop and boy is she proud.

For Amelia (who has internal magnets that direct her to mud) I was happy to find these dark brown shoes.

Maybe I should have gone with all dark clothing too. Brown shoes or not, there’s plenty of mud.

Clips from the crowded but oh so beautiful Cherry Blossom Festival.

Sometimes it is enough to simply be tourists. The weather has been very sunny with temps in the high 70′s to low 80′s. From the National Arboretum to walking along the Mall to walks to the playground/dog park, we have spent much of the last couple days soaking in this lovely weather.

Not a bad way to be spending our Easter Weekend.

The Singing Lizard

Author: Linnea

We are on vacation. I kind of failed to mention that this week. It has been both a working and pleasurable trip. First we went to Philadelphia, but there are not yet pictures from that part. We spent some lovely time with dear friends and of course our beloved Geeka (aka my sister Christine). Riana especially seemed to enjoy the hours spent snuggling and reading books with her Aunt.  Certainly the most difficult part of our trip so far was not the twelve hours in the car but the sad hours leading up to our departure from Philly. Riana was just so sad to be leaving, and she has the words to make this point very painfully known. Nonetheless, I am grateful that we had the time to spend with the people in Philly who we love (and the places we like to eat too).

From Philly, we traveled down to Washington DC. One major highlight was getting to attend our first Singing Lizard concert. Ryan’s sister makes awesome kids music that children and adult alike enjoy.

Amelia and Auntie Liz aka The Singing Lizard

As always, it is clear that Amelia is musically inclined.

She was mesmerized and even wanted to help with the keyboard. Such fun.  I am very glad that we finally got to hear Liz perform live. The weather has been glorious and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. All we want to do is be outdoors!
