peak a boo boo

There is nothing quite like walking in the woods on these spring days. The smell of growth and wild flowers. The sounds of birds frantic for food, for mates, and for nest protection. And the greens, oh the greens. Especially deep after a good bit of rain. So we walk… and watch…and listen…

We find treasures…

And walk some more…

Hope this week finds you taking a walk, breathing in the sweet air, and happening on a bit of magic too.

A few weeks ago, I got a bike. It’s a pretty silver thing that rides well on the trails and is not too heavy to lift. The only problem is that Amelia continues to dislike anything on wheels.  No stroller, no wagon, no shopping cart… she will sit on her little bike, but no pushing.  First, we borrowed a friend’s Burley trailer.  Amelia cried for ten miles until we stopped for a picnic. Poor Riana was very patient with the whole ordeal.  On the way back, Amelia feel asleep and Riana held her head. I think she got a lollipop that day.  Finally we got our rear bike seats all hooked up and tried that (again). Relative success! After five or six minutes of her saying “I want all done” she was okay to point out the river, look for dogs, and munch her granola bar.  And then we heard my rear tire exclaim, “POP!”  Yes, we heard the exclamation point.  My nearly new tire was no more.  So, we dropped the bike off at our neighborly shop (they included a thirty day tune-up with the purchase so it was about time anyway) and that ended the ride.  Back on our own two feet, it was time for a walk.

The fun Hipstamatic app accompanied us on our outing. It’s totally random but kind of fun too. Who would have thought that there would be such a market for ways to make digital cameras look so old? Makes me chuckle.

Starring-

The Watcher, who found it fun to lean on this rock and watch the sky.

Dandelion Girl, who learned the importance of only blowing out when there’s a dandelion involved.

The Cameraman, who was willing to put down his big gun and sneak in this picture of-

The Mama, who was glad to get out (on wheel and foot) with her family.

Inspired by a) Emily, who is reminding me to live in the moments and take notice of the present and b) Soulemama, who weekly posts “{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.”

Gray skies are just clouds passing over.     -Duke Ellington

It is indeed one of those spring days of sprinkles, chilling winds, and cloudy gray skies. We ventured out when there were pokes of blue and bits of sun, but this soon turned back to sprinkles. It made for a sort of walking picnic– in order to stay warm.

Next I think I’ll curl up in a blanket (with tea and a book) to enjoy the rest of my Sunday afternoon that way.
