Somehow, the camera was not really out much this past week.  Despite the lack of photo-documenting, my Aunt and sister visited and we got to visit a friend from Philly who was at a family cottage not too far away.  Riana of course thinks that everyone will want to go on a bike ride with her, and so far, she hasn’t really been incorrect on this. :) We also decided that she can handle her bike well enough to bring it on an upcoming trip to the island without cars; Mackinac Island. More on that later…

Tennis with Auntie Liz and Papa.
If you need us, and it’s not raining, we’ll probably be outside this week!

I like a to-do list that reads like this: take another bike ride, play tennis, let Riana ride her bike around the block, chase after stay tennis balls, go swimming, eat freshly picked strawberries and cherries, repeat.

The days begin to feel like summer, but then a rainy spell arrives and I am reminded that the nights still get cool in these parts.  Recently, we visited a local farm to pick up a bit of produce and try their raw cheese.

We had a fun afternoon, made even more enjoyable by a little kitten who seemed to be our unofficial tour guide. He showed us the baby chicks, the milking barn, and of course the cows too.

I’m pretty sure he wanted to come home with us.

I was naive about these birds… I thought they would eat more seed in the winter, but it’s spring that finds us refilling our feeders every day. We like this spot because we can watch from the kitchen window or the backyard. Maybe this weekend we’ll get creative and build one of our own for the other kitchen window. Meanwhile, they seem willing to take turns.

And our favorite bird family; the one nesting in our roof. We are not sure just how many babies are up there, but their sounds are certainly loud, especially from our bedroom.

Anyone good at identifying sparrow species? I’ve been lazy about getting the bird book out, but I am beginning to wonder about how long they’ll stay in the nest. I keep thinking that if we spend enough time in the yard, maybe we will get lucky enough to witness a first flight. I am also hoping that they will be done nesting by the time our house is resided later this month. Pressing thumbs!

There is nothing quite like walking in the woods on these spring days. The smell of growth and wild flowers. The sounds of birds frantic for food, for mates, and for nest protection. And the greens, oh the greens. Especially deep after a good bit of rain. So we walk… and watch…and listen…

We find treasures…

And walk some more…

Hope this week finds you taking a walk, breathing in the sweet air, and happening on a bit of magic too.
