bike around town

Author: Linnea

Yes there is a bike theme going on here.  With Ryan and Dan’s multi-day trip to Mackinaw City less than a week away, we are in full bike mode.  We are taking my almost-90-year-old grandparents on a family trip to Mackinac Island and there are no cars; only bikes and horses.  And, we are taking advantage of the summer weather to leave the car behind much more often as we venture out on bike.  I cannot quite describe how good it has felt to be less car-dependent.  Admittedly, part of why this feels so good is because we still have the choice! We have the car option, but we have other options too.  On a recent trip around town, Riana asked to take pictures. Here is a sampling of the ride, from preparation to park in 15 shots:

::::taken by Riana:::: more of her pictures from a recent bike ride coming tomorrow. :)

Inspired by a) Emily, who is reminding me to live in the moments and take notice of the present and b) Soulemama, who weekly posts “{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.”

CSA Week 5

Author: Linnea

5 weeks ago, we spent our farm time weeding carrots and here they are! So sweet and crisp! This week’s haul also includes kale, green lettuce, red lettuce, mixed greens, scallions, radishes, Italian parsley, and fennel. Hmmmmm, what to make with fennel…

Somehow, the camera was not really out much this past week.  Despite the lack of photo-documenting, my Aunt and sister visited and we got to visit a friend from Philly who was at a family cottage not too far away.  Riana of course thinks that everyone will want to go on a bike ride with her, and so far, she hasn’t really been incorrect on this. :) We also decided that she can handle her bike well enough to bring it on an upcoming trip to the island without cars; Mackinac Island. More on that later…

We know that old cells are always dying and new ones always growing. Somewhere I read that this leads to totally new cells every seven years. Of course I read somewhere else that brain cells don’t work that way and someone else argues that it’s every nine years, but seven is the number I’m using. Interestingly, Waldorf breaks life into seven year cycles too.

Seven years ago today, Ryan and I joined hands and started our branch of a family. Seven years ago, the cells that said “I do” were totally different and still, we grow, learn, and explore together. But we do agree, seven years is a good time to reread those vows, see where we want to refocus, see what was important seven years ago, point our rudder on the next seven years and the seven after that… Happy seven years and all those new cells Ryan Michael. I’m glad we don’t know the rest.
